Elgato announced its new Video Capture Plus Analog Video for the Mac. The product takes any analog video source and encodes it digitally to the Mac over USB 2.0.

The system is intended as an easy way for consumers wishing to bring their analog video sources, such as home videos for digital videos. Once on the Mac, the videos then can be edited inside iMovie and sent to iDVD, uploaded to YouTube, or loaded into iTunes. From iTunes, users can then easily bring their video to their iPhone or iPod.

The capture saves files to generic MPEG-4 or H.264 formats. The hardware supports RCA-style composite and S-Video A/V connectors, allowing users to link to most any consumer decks and camcorders. Video Capture supports NTSC, PAL, PAL/60, and SECAM up to resolutions of 640x480. Users can also select either 16:9 or 4:3 aspects.

The utility requires Mac OS 10.5.6 or later, QuickTime 7.6 or later, iTunes 8.1 or later, and any Mac with Intel Core Duo processor. The package will be available from Mac resellers “shortly” with an MSRP of $99.95.
