TiVo is expected to start shipping its add-on transcoding box starting September 6th. The TiVo Stream will stream TV shows recorded to your TiVo Premiere DVR to an iPad or iPhone on your local network. The system works with TiVo's iOS app. In addition to streaming directly from the TiVo, users will be able to save shows on the iPad/iPhone for later viewing. Pretty nifty.

The device will sell for $129.99 and will not involve any additional subscription fees. The box itself resembles an Apple TV and simply has two plugs for power and Ethernet. It appears the device will need to be connected directly to your router.

The big limitation may involve subscribers to Time Warner and premium channels like HBO, for example which slaps copy protection flag on content. They may not be able to store content on the iPad.
